Description

A phlebotomist collects blood samples safely and accurately while ensuring patient comfort and proper handling of specimens. They work closely with doctors, nurses, laboratories, and patients in hospitals, diagnostic labs, blood banks, and clinics.


Key Responsibilities

  • Draw blood using venipuncture, finger sticks, or heel sticks
  • Verify patient identity and label samples correctly
  • Maintain sterile and safe procedures
  • Prepare specimens for laboratory testing
  • Explain procedures to patients and reduce anxiety
  • Maintain patient records and documentation
  • Dispose of medical waste safely
  • Follow infection control and safety regulations
  • Maintain equipment and supplies
